Date night in Santa Barbara

When was the last time you had a night out without the kids? Is it the planning or the cost that keeps us from planning a regular date night… $20 for 2 to see a movie, $75 for dinner and then another $50 for a babysitter… or another night at home on the couch with a $5 movie rental and take-out? Parents need to get out and enjoy some adult time outside the house and it does not have to be expensive.

For an inexpensive dinner we will have Chipotle or even get burritos from Freebirds in IV and take them to the beach, eat & walk. Walking along the bike path and out onto Stearn’s wharf is always lovely and not sandy or tarry. Day time dates are always fun too. If the kids have after school activities or playdates & we can steal an hour or so we love to go hike or even just run errands together. The point is togetherness. As I am usually the one who shops for groceries and manages the household items, it is nice to have company.

It’s not too often we have time for a date night. When there is a good concert at Santa Barbara Bowl we make a plan to go and enjoy a concert together. It’s so nice to have a venue right here in town!

We like to walk to Taffy’s Pizza and play the video games. It’s less expensive than a fancy restaurant and makes us feel like kids again. Walking there and back is great exercise and gives us a nice chance to chat and enjoy the fresh air.

My husband and I love the drive-in! It’s fairly inexpensive to see 2 movies and you can bring in your own food and drinks. Also, we can talk during the movie without bothering others, and maybe even trade foot massages!
