Child Welfare Services is a government funded agency . Our mandate is to protect the well being of children. Often times children are unable to reside safely in there own homes due to abuse, neglect, abandonment and or a incapacitated caretaker.
Children in the foster care system need homes to grow up in that are stable and loving. Many of these children do not have family of their own to love and provide for them. Santa Barbara County has 600 plus children under the jurisdiction of Child Welfare Services. That means that over 600 children from our community needed the protection of the court to keep them safe. However, these children need more than the protection of the court.
They need you! Child Welfare Services offers an Orientation and Classes for persons interested in becoming a licensed foster parent and or adoptive parent. Becoming a licensed foster parent/ adoptive parent legally allows you to care for children in your home. Financial assistance is available to help offset the cost of parenting.
