Wilderness Youth Project School Year Volunteers

Wilderness Youth Project

Nature connection makes children smarter, healthier and happier. Our programs foster confidence, health, and a life-long love of learning through active outdoor experiences and mentoring. In order to share these benefits with the diverse demographics of our community, we include youth and families with a range of abilities and backgrounds.

WYP offers exciting volunteer opportunities all year long. Volunteers have the chance to encourage curiosity and help to foster confidence and a life long love of learning while exploring the wonders of nature. Volunteers are age sixteen and older.

Most school year volunteers choose one day a week to volunteer and assist the same 2 staff and 12 children for the duration of at least one season. WYP’s school year consists of four seasons: Fall I, Fall II, Winter & Spring. Volunteers meet with staff to prepare for the day 30 minutes before program, and stay 30 minutes post program to debrief. This typically requires a 4 hour commitment once a week, on the same day each week.

Programs meet at local parks, open spaces and schools in Goleta, Santa Barbara, Montecito and Ojai. View our map of meeting locations. Read about the role of a Wilderness Youth Project volunteer on our Volunteer Resources Page.
