Hiking and Blueberry Picking in Gaviota

Pack a lunch, grab some friends and head out on a day trip to Gaviota! If you are looking for something to do outside in this gorgeous summer weather, and have hit all the beaches and parks, pack up your mini-van and head towards Gaviota!

Near Gaviota you will find Nojoqui Falls Park (just off the 101).  I recently took my three girls (ages 6, 5 and 2 1/2), along with my sister-in-law and her two boys here.  It’s a serene park, hidden by trees and full of nature.  There is a short .6 mile trail, that even my youngest daughter could do independently.  The trail ends at a small pond with a beautiful (although small) waterfall to play in.  The girls had a wonderful time looking for tadpoles and throwing rocks!  Leaving the park we even saw a mommy dear and her doe.  It was great to be outside, exercise and experience nature together.

After leaving Nojoqui, we stopped at the Restoration Oaks Ranch Blueberry Farm.  For $15 you get 3 lbs of fresh organic blueberries, the only catch is YOU GET TO PICK THEM!  The kids absolutely LOVED this activity.  They were all determined to fill a whole pail all by themselves, but they quickly learned that farming is not easy work.  It took all five kids to pick 3 lbs, of course the reward of fresh blueberries was definitely worth it!

So, if you are feeling adventurous, pack a lunch, grab some friends and enjoy a fun day trip in the Gaviota area!
