Easy Holiday Ornaments

Deck Your Halls with Salt, Flour, and Water

Looking for a quick, easy, and inexpensive holiday craft to do with your littles? Look no further than making salt dough ornaments. These ornaments will probably remind you of your own childhood holiday crafts, but can be dressed up or down.

To Make:
1 cup flour
½ cup salt
½ cup warm water

I put all the ingredients in my mixer for 8 minutes, occasionally scraping down the sides of the bowl. When the dough is sticky and smooth, roll it out. It was helpful to roll it straight onto the baking sheets or silapt mats you’ll be using.

Then decorate! We made some handprint ornaments for the grandparents, some cookie cutter shapes, and even used our animal stamps to make animal ornaments. Peel the extra dough away, leaving the shapes right on the baking sheet. For a little sparkle, sprinkle glitter over the ornaments. Use a drinking straw to poke a hole where you want the ribbon to go. Bake in the oven for at least 3 hours at 200.

Once the ornaments have dried, you can hang them as is or keep decorating! We are using chalkboard paint on some of our shapes so we can writes messages, etc.
